Secondary Curriculum Development for Dual Language
How strong is your dual language curriculum? Participants will engage in a three day session to build a dual language unit of study appropriate for the middle or high school course. A backwards design model.guides our alignment of standards, integration of content with language objectives and meaningful activities that build comprehensibility. The course is designed for a team of 2-5 teachers to work collaboratively. The sessions will be half day virtual sessions followed by curriculum assignments for work teams. The end result will be a unit of study appropriate for dual language learners at the secondary level.

Participants will engage in monthly discussions about empowering teachers in social change. Book Study: The Translanguaging Classroom- Leveraging Student Bilingualism for Learning

Participants will have an opportunity to virtually visit a elementary dual language school in North Carolina. A brief school tour will highlight various programs and school context. Dual language classrooms will be observed with brief discussion following each classroom visit. Leadership from the school will join our group for a debrief and to answer any questions. Tour options are offered and you can register for one or both visits.
Culturally Responsive Resources for Spanish Dual Language Webinar Series

While many schools have culturally responsive resources available in English, finding similar materials in Spanish can be a challenge. Human Resources is an ongoing challenge for new and experienced programs. Participants will learn about effective strategies for recruitment, hiring and retention in the dual language setting.
